Doctor’s Note
A directed and consistent exercise plan may also have additional benefits, including lessening of fatigue, pain, cognitive problems, and imbalance, among other issues.
Doctor’s Note
For people with decreased mobility from MS, increased body weight is a risk. This can, in turn, impede mobility and exercise capability even more.
When losing weight is a major factor in your ability to regain health, the key is to create a deficit in which you burn more calories than you take in during the day. Cardiovascular training can help achieve that deficit and lead to the desired weight loss. Weight loss can have a broad range of benefits, from alleviating symptoms to allowing an individual to change or drop certain medications (in consultation with a physician).
When just beginning, many people ask if it is more important to start a workout with resistance training or cardiovascular training. One without the other creates a workout that is unbalanced and produces few results. In fact, cardiovascular training without resistance training often leads to muscle loss and can significantly slow a person’s metabolism. The OptimalBody program combines the benefits of both types of training in a complete and efficient workout.

Hypertrophic definition (HD): The OptimalBody program uses hypertrophic definition (HD) training. Hypertrophy is the physiological name for muscle growth, and definition refers to the training’s cardiovascular aspect to help get lean. Thus, hypertrophic definition simply means performing muscle-building exercises with an elevated heart rate to burn calories and fat. The idea of the OptimalBody HD Training System is simple: You can build muscle and burn fat at the same time.
Circuit training: Circuit training is a method that involves grouping exercises together in such a way that you move quickly from one exercise to the next with little or no rest in between. This keeps the heart rate up and in an effective calorie-burning mode. Whether you want that beach body, to look like your favorite celebrity, or just need to combat specific symptoms, such as fatigue, this is an effective way to do it.
Mini circuits: These are small circuits grouped together to form a larger circuit. The OptimalBody program incorporates mini circuits in a variety of exercises to keep the workout fun and avoid overtraining on any particular movement.
Supersets: While circuits combine groups of exercises (usually four or more), supersets focus specifically on two exercises performed back to back with little or no rest in between before moving on to another exercise or another superset combining two more exercises.
